Beautiful Dust

"Somewhere in my dust heap there's a richness." – John Steinbeck

Adapting

Written with a little help from e.e. cummings:

i thank You God for most this amazing
day: temperatures suiting themselves exactly
and sitting out of doors, to eat;
over questions taking long in answering
which questioning owes vulnerability
(if we let it)

i thank You God for most this amazing
day: touching of renewal with familiar
presence refreshing us
to drink in the tastes of lemon and ginger and sun:
reminders of what was
bringing what is into focus.

i thank You God for most this amazing
day: all and for most this love reflecting
in mirrors all around
in air heavy with humid and spice —
summer come early.
(i thank you God)

“how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any–lifted from the no
of all nothing–human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?”
