Beautiful Dust

"Somewhere in my dust heap there's a richness." – John Steinbeck

Lecturing

I.
You know you’re beautiful?
Do you know what that means
That it isn’t a synonym for photoshopped?
Do you know that it’s the the way you smile with your eyes
Your laugh and that different way of saying
That make you someone I love to see.

Do you know
Sometimes I forget I’m beautiful-
Okay most times-
And it’s you who remind me.
About my smile and my laugh.
You notice my way of saying.

It’s okay to forget and I think
All of us do. More than we’d like because I think
We let the people who don’t see our eyes when we smile
Tell us what beauty is.
It’s okay to forget so long as you listen
When I tell you to remember
That He made you beautiful.
